Annual Report 2022-2023

DEAR FRIENDS,

As my term as Board Chair draws to a close, I'm filled with immense pride and gratitude reflecting on the achievements of Hope Services. After 10 years serving on Hope’s board, I’ve witnessed its transformative role in our community and its unwavering commitment to helping individuals of all abilities thrive.

At the core of everything we achieve lies our mission to empower, uplift, and enhance the lives of those we serve. This year saw the expansion and enhancement of numerous programs. We celebrated Hope’s 70th anniversary with the commemorative HopeSTUDIO quilt project and took it a step further by expanding the art studio space, giving our talented artists more room and resources to support their growth. The swift transition of the Counseling Center to a virtual service model, the integration of the Discovery Education online learning curriculum, and the championing of Person-Centered Thinking are milestones that exemplify our ability to adapt and innovate.

Earlier this year, we completed a comprehensive assessment and proudly renewed our 3-year CARF Accreditation, signifying our dedication to the highest standards across various programs. Our team's incredible passion and spirit have also earned us the Top Workplaces 2023 award and a resounding endorsement with a perfect score from Charity Navigator. These accolades represent the efforts of everyone at Hope Services and a shared commitment to this work.

Our impact starts from within, and I am proud of the strides we’ve made in investing in our people. From the $95,000 paid in educational scholarships to enhanced benefits like gym membership reimbursement and free counseling services–we're making sure our staff are supported, recognized, and rewarded.

One of the brightest highlights of this year was In Concert with Hope, where we rang in the 5th anniversary of this signature event in a world-class venue, The Mountain Winery. With your support, we raised over $870,000 for Hope Services and surpassed a cumulative total of $3M in critical funding over the past five years. Such incredible outcomes only underscore the strength of our community’s partnership.

I'd like to express my deepest appreciation to Hope’s Board of Directors, Leadership Team, Advisory Council, our volunteers, and our dedicated staff. Your efforts truly make Hope's vision a reality.

And to our community allies, supporters, and partners, I leave with a heart full of gratitude. Thank you for standing beside us, with the same mission to make this world a bit more kind, inclusive, and equitable for all. Your support tangibly brings Hope to those who need it.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Cameron Haste

Expanding Mental Health Services To Meet A Growing Need

Every day, those with developmental disabilities face a 3x higher risk of mental health challenges than their neurotypical peers. In the heart of California, Hope’s Mental Health Services provide critical care and support, as the largest outpatient mental health clinic solely dedicated to addressing the needs of dually diagnosed individuals.

Over the last 5 years we have:

  • Increased our funding allocation to Mental Health services to $14M from $5M
  • Expanded our service area to 5 new counties
  • Hired 60 specialized staff
  • Added service and translation support for 9 additional languages

Strengthening Our Approach with Person-Centered Thinking

For over a decade, Hope has championed Person-Centered Thinking (PCT), a core element of our strategic plan and the gold-standard service model for individuals with diverse needs. PCT ensures that every individual is served according to their needs and preference. This year, we are proud to report 80% of our staff are now trained in Person-Centered Thinking (PCT).

Harnessing Technology for Empowered Learning

Recognizing the power of tailored education, we invested in the Discovery Education online learning curriculum, which caters to the diverse interests of our participants while bolstering their digital literacy. Whether used online or as a part of on-site instruction, it ensures consistent, high-quality learning opportunities for all.

The 5th Annual In Concert With Hope

The Mountain Winery provided an unforgettable backdrop for the 5th anniversary of In Concert with Hope. The sold-out event on June 16th was hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Dennis McNeil, and showcased performances by funk-rock legends, Tower of Power, and two-time Grammy-nominated saxophonist, Mindi Abair.

Event proceeds are bolstering children’s services, access to mental healthcare, community employment, supported living, and more.

Tickets are on sale for the 6th Annual In Concert With Hope, headlined by the iconic Kool and the Gang, and Mindi Abair!
