Our Commitment to Protecting the People We Serve

Dear Hope Services Community,

In recent weeks, we have seen heightened activity from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including raids that have understandably raised concerns within our communities. We know these events can cause fear and uncertainty for the individuals and families we serve—especially those from immigrant backgrounds or mixed-status households.

I want to be clear: Hope Services will do all we can under the law to protect our clients from unjust targeting, fear, or raids. We serve all communities, without exception, and we condemn efforts to criminalize lawful care. Our mission has always been rooted in dignity, opportunity, and connection for every person, regardless of ability or status, and that commitment will not change.

Today, I’m sharing a resource with you—Shifting Political Landscapes—which outlines Hope’s stance and strategy amid a changing political, economic, and social climate. This document includes:

  • Talking points, you can use if clients or families come to you with questions or concerns about ICE activity or other policy changes.
  • The steps Hope is taking to address these issues, including resisting harmful policies, protecting our community, building long-term resilience, and bridging toward a more equitable future for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and mental health needs.
  • An overview of our ongoing advocacy to safeguard services, defend civil rights, and maintain a safe and inclusive workplace.

This is a moment that calls for unity and clarity. Please remember you are not alone in navigating these conversations. If you receive a question, you are unsure how to answer, refer to the talking points in the document, or connect with your supervisor for additional guidance.

Thank you for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to the people we serve. Together, we will continue to stand as a source of safety, support, and hope.

With appreciation and resolve,

Aila Malik
