- Job Description:
To map out and drive assigned routes safely to pick up donated materials and household goods in a timely manner; offload at assigned stores or warehouse and represent Hope Services Salvage Program to all donors. Assure placement of materials in trucks meets assigned safety standards. Train other drivers and coordinate more difficult routes as needed.

The following responsibilities represent the essential functions of the position:
Arrive at the office and begin to help move materials from each truck to fill enough trucks for offloading at assigned Savers stores/and or warehouse. Follow store procedures when offloading materials from trucks to Savers store or warehouse. Route daily assignments to assure all customers expecting a pickup receive expected services. Assist other drivers as needed with routing.Perform daily service check of all vehicles; assuring vehicle is in safe running order before leaving home base.Perform minor service on assigned vehicle such as adding fluids, securing gas, replacing wipers etc. Drive HOPE trucks to pick up and deliver donated goods and materials. Read a map and assure safe navigation of large vehicles through various communities.Know all community routes and be prepared to fill in as needed when routes are combined as needed due to shortages. Represent the agency in the community; provide excellent customer service. Act as a role model for other drivers. Communicate all change, customer concerns and transportation issues to home base.
When unable to find customer’s address, communicate to home base for correct directions. Maintain high collection rates. Acts as a mandated abuse reporter. When driving in same route areas with other drivers, communicate to find out which driver might need help with his route. Act as back up. Supervise and provide training to assigned clients, subs and other drivers. Call in to home base when route is completed; and before leaving route area. Perform other duties as assigned to assure efficiency of the program.
High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent plus one-two years of related experience driving light trucks in an urban environment. Possession of a valid CA driver's license (Class C) and clear driving record.
- Required Skills:
Ability to read a map. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Ability to accept supervision and work cooperatively as a team member with co-workers as well as with the client and community resources. Knowledge of proper methods of handling large items and proper lifting techniques. Ability to utilize critical thinking skills in decision-making situations, and good independent judgment. Knowledge and understanding of defensive driving techniques plus a clear driving record for 3 years. Ability to work independently in the community and represent the agency in a positive manner. Ability to be flexible with scheduling and prioritization of tasks.
