Adult and Older Adult Therapeutic Services: Counseling Center

Who does the Counseling Center serve? 

The Counseling Center's adult units serve Adults and Older Adults with a qualifying mental health diagnosis and a developmental disability. 

What services does the Counseling Center offer to adults, older adults, and their families? 

Counseling, case management, and psychiatric services including medication, family education, and collateral therapy and support services are available. 

Specific interventions include:

Counseling, which may include psychotherapy, rehabilitation counseling, sand tray, cognitive behavior therapy, supportive therapy, behavior therapy, play therapy and other modalities as necessary to assist the individual to control troubling symptoms such anxiety, depression or more severe disorders of mood and thinking. 

Individual and group modalities or sessions are available.

Case management services, which may involve assistance in linking the adult or older adult to other community services to improve the quality of life.

Psychiatric services including assessment by a psychiatrist and medication if warranted.

Psychiatric technician medication support services are available to individuals and families.

Behavioral Consultation and Plan Development is available to parents and board and care homes that seek expert advice as to how to use effective reward systems to teach clients how to achieve success in their home and community settings.

Behavioral Health-Management Groups are available to assist clients with management of health behaviors to promote longevity and healthy living.

Family Support and Education Coffee Klatches are monthly informational and support meetings for parents or significant others, including Board and Care who serve individuals with developmental disabilities who have mental health needs.

Children's Services: Counseling Center

Who does the Counseling Center serve? 

The Counseling Center is focused on providing treatment for children, adolescents, and transitional youth birth to 21 with a qualifying mental health diagnosis and a developmental disability. 

What services does the Counseling Center offer to children and their families? 

Counseling, case management, and psychiatric services including medication, family education, and collateral therapy and support.

Specific interventions include:

  • individual and group therapy,

  • case management,

  • rehabilitation counseling,

  • psychiatric consultation with a family and child psychiatric physician,

  • individual consultation for parents in order for them to better help their children, teens and transition age adolescents.

Therapeutic Behavioral Service (TBS) is available for children with extreme needs who required hospitalization in the past couple of years; they may qualify for intensive behavioral 1:1 treatment in the home, school, or community as well as extensive parental consultation.    

Behavioral Life Coaching is available for adolescents and transition age young people on the autistic spectrum and others to foster integration into the community, and development of skills leading to independence in the context of their diagnoses.   

Transitional Youth program is available in selected school districts to deal with emerging developmental/psychological issues post-high school.  It fosters behavioral skill development in the service of acclimating to community life.

Family Support services or Coffee Klatches are monthly informational and support meetings for families or significant others, including providers from Board & Care homes, of people with developmental disabilities who have mental health needs.
